Most cold follow-ups feel pushy because the writer is negotiating with themselves inside the message. They apologize, they justify, and then they ask for the meeting three times.
Change one thing: write for their calendar, not yours
Every follow-up should reference their world - a change in their business, a new hire, a launch, a market shift - not the fact that you have not heard back.
The 6-touch cadence I actually use
- Day 0: original outreach (call + email + LinkedIn)
- Day 3: value follow-up - a resource, not a request
- Day 8: reference their world (news, hire, launch)
- Day 15: direct - 'still relevant, or park this?'
- Day 25: soft break-up - 'closing this out unless…'
- Day 60: reactivation - brand-new angle
Voice rules
One question per email. No 'just circling back.' No apologies. Say the ask, then stop.
